This survey was a repeat of the first national survey carried out by the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys in 1994 and enables the changes that have occurred over the five year period since that first survey to be measured and the implications for sport and young people to be assessed. (Updated in 2002)
The survey was carried out with a random sample of young people aged 6 to 16 years across England.
The sample was selected to ensure appropriate coverage of different types of schools, English regions and local authorities.
Editor's comments - [ The survey did not include young people in special schools as this would require a different sampling method. Sport England carried out a separate survey of participation in sport by young people with a disability. You can download the main report, the headline findings and the sport specific participation data. In 2003 the data was used in a trend analysis 1994-2002 ] Reference this?Cryer, J. (Year).
