The Olympic Charter is the codification of the Fundamental Principles, Rules and Bye-laws adopted by the IOC. It governs the organization and operation of the Olympic Movement and stipulates the conditions for the celebration of the Olympic Games;and according to the Olympic Charter, the IOC is the supreme authority of and leads the Olympic Movement, and the Olympic Games are the exclusive property of the IOC which owns all rights and data relating thereto, in particular, and without limitation, all rights relating to their organization, exploitation, broadcasting, recording, representation, reproduction, access and dissemination in any form and by any means or mechanism whatsoever, whether now existing or developed in the future.
The IOC hereby entrusts the organization of the Games to the City and the National Olympic Committee (NOC) which undertake to fulfil their obligations in full compliance with the provisions of the Olympic Charter and this Contract, including, without limitation, all matters contained in the documents referred to in this Contract, which, for greater certainty, are deemed to form an integral part of this Contract.
This document then is the contract between the IOC and the UK Government governing the awarding (in 2005) of the hosting of the xxx Olympic Games in 2012 (to the city of London as it turned out).
